Meet and Greet Dr. Darryl Tippens

Sunday, April 14, 2013, is a half-way point of our journey through the book Pilgrim Heart as we study the topic Discerning:  The Gift of Wisdom.  This book is a great resource for revival and spiritual refreshment.  The biblical ideas presented by our brother Darryl Tippens in this book are edifying and inspirational.

Darryl Tippens is the provost of Pepperdine University, where he is also a professor of English. He has served as Pepperdine’s chief academic officer for twelve years. Prior to joining Pepperdine he taught English at Abilene Christian University and, previous to that, he taught at Oklahoma Christian College for 14 years. He has served as an elder for the Highland congregation in Abilene for eight years; and has taught adult classes for many years. He has also has served churches as a youth and education minister in Oklahoma City, Kansas City and Baton Rouge. He speaks frequently at retreats and Christian college lectureships. Darryl enjoys writing articles on religion, film, and literature. He has co-authored three books on adolescent spirituality and an anthology of literature called Shadow and Light: Literature and the Life of Faith. Darryl also enjoys encouraging churches to revitalize and improve the quality of congregational singing. He established an international conference devoted to a cappella music in 2007 called “The Ascending Voice” at Pepperdine University. The next “The Ascending Voice” symposium will take place at Pepperdine University on May 9-11. Everyone is invited.  He and his wife, Anne, have two adult sons and two granddaughters—who all live in Texas.

Brother Tippens is coming to the Upland Church of Christ on Sunday, April 21st.  He will be teaching the bible class, preaching the morning sermon, and eating with us in the Fellowship Hall after church for a potluck.    His theme for Sunday morning worship will be “God’s Requirement and Man’s Need for Spirit-Filled Living”.  The potluck will be a Meet and Greet Dr. Tippens that will follow the morning service.  Everyone will have opportunity to have their book autographed by the author.  I look forward to having a wonderful time.  You and your family are welcome to join us as we meet and greet the Tippens family.  You will be glad you did.
